Yvonne Morningstar, 78, of Stow, Ohio passed away on Memorial Day, May 28, 2018 at the David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland, Ohio. Over the course of her three-month cancer illness she was with her loving family and was able to correspond with her friends and pray.
She was born in Morenci, Michigan on January 2, 1940 to Clarence and Helen (Pocklington) Morningstar and lived in Tecumseh through her high school graduation in 1958. In the fall she became a student at Edward Sparrow Hospital and got her Life Savers Badge. In the summer of 1959 she went to Camp Alice Chester Girl Scout camp in Wisconsin and was a lifeguard and swim instructor. Yvonne proudly waved her Tecumseh and Michigan heritage as a banner throughout her life. A heartwarming example of this was her joy and devotion to her High School classmates in planning their class reunions. Even in her final days she was helping the committee in any way she could to plan their 60th reunion that will occur in September.
In the fall of 1959 she entered Cleveland Metropolitan School of Nursing at Metro General Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Her deep connection with the friends she made throughout her life yet again is exemplified by the closeness to the members of that CMGH class of 1962 over these many years. Her mother had always wished to be a nurse, and since her teen years Yvonne also shared this desire. It would be a lifelong pursuit and accomplishment.
Soon after coming to Cleveland, Yvonne met her husband to be, Alfred Hoffmann. Together they raised Eric, Alan and Kurt in South Euclid, Ohio. She worked diligently to raise three, what some might say challenging boys while actively involved in the PTA, volunteering at Hillcrest Hospital in the emergency room, participating in Cub Scouts as a Den Mother, and singing in the Mayfield Methodist Church Choir. Exemplifying the drive and determination those who knew her will readily attest, she became an Emergency Medical Technician and drove ambulance with Hillcrest Ambulance Service from 1977 through 1979, returned to school and through incredible concentration and tireless effort received her diploma from Huron Road Hospital School of Nursing and her Ohio Nursing License in 1981. She received her Michigan License in 1982.
Yvonne Hoffmann, RN now devoted herself to her profession with the same focus and drive it took to get to this point. Upon graduation and certification, she became a staff nurse at Huron Road Hospital. Her desire to get her Bachelors degree was now a mission. She moved to Toledo and worked at The Toledo Hospital full time and for Caring Services part time in a home health patient care role while attending classes at The University of Toledo. Yvonne also found time to volunteer for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. All this and was a Kappa Delta Pi honor society member in 1986 as well!
Yvonne Morningstar received her B.Ed. from The University of Toledo in 1989 with Honors. Her sons and their families celebrated her accomplishment with her in grand fashion in Toledo.
Her family now beckoned her back to Cleveland and so in 1990 she moved again and began work at University Hospitals. In 1993 she left to join University Home Care Services and retired from there in 2005. During this time, she was the proud mother of the groom to her three sons and their spouses Janice, Nancy and Kimberly. Certainly, retirement did not slow her down a bit. The many loves and interests she devoted her time included first and foremost her family, including her grandchildren Jennifer, Michelle, Christopher, Jake, Emily and Hayden, the Walter and Laura Hoffmann family, and the Herbert Hoffmann family. Much loving time was devoted to her passions of reading, planning reunions for her various classes, watching movies, writing poems, swimming, listening to music, and working on her genealogy.
An incredible list of accomplishments from a deeply loved woman to be sure. However, it does not do justice to the many lives Yvonne Morningstar – daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, friend, classmate, nurse touched and deeply impacted.
Yvonne Morningstar, RN, you will be missed by so many, and remembered with incredible affection by all who knew you. Please rest in the everlasting peace you so rightly earned and deserve.

I can’t remember just how many years I have been FREINDS with Yvonne but it was sometime in the 70s. I was first her hairdresser and then her FREIND, but it soon changed to FREIND and then her hairdresser!!! Yvonne was ONE in a MILLION, and she let you know it!( I say that LOVINGLY!) She sure loved her FAMILY,working on her reunions, and trips back to Michigan!!! I cut her hair every 6 to 7 weeks, for ALL those years. After her haircut we would go out to dinner and discuss ALL the problems in the WORLD and talk about OUR WONDERFUL CHILDREN And GRANDCHILDREN !!! I guess we would try to tell each who LOVED their FAMILIES MORE!!! It was a DRAW!!! I will ALWAYS cherish her FREINDSHIP!!! Rest in Peace Dear FRIED!!!

  2. Carol Spangler Thompson (Larry) says:

Our condolences and prayers to all her family. I had many fond memories about Yvonne and her folks as they were great friends and hunting buddies with my folks. I always wondered (but never thought to ask) how our folks became such good friends. In reading her obituary, I never knew that she was born in Morenci, MI and both my parents were from there.

Yvonne was a cherished member of my book discussion group at Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library for many years and I adored her. I looked forward to her input on every book (even if she didn’t like what we read) and she always made me think of something I hadn’t realized when reading the book. I enjoyed her wit, her caring, her compassion..she was a force of nature that I will truly miss. God bless you Yvonne, I hope you are leading a book discussion group in heaven, you certainly knew your books!!

I met Yvonne 7 years ago when I started working at the Stow Munroe Falls Public Library. She was one of the volunteers that delivered books to our Homebound patrons. Years later, I inherited a book club that she was involved with. I will miss her very much.

    In Memory of Yvonne Morningstar…

Remembering the hours spent sitting around Nancy’s kitchen table visiting, sharing words of kindness and memories of the Hoffmann family, Jake and Lil (Nancy’s mother). She made travelers feel welcomed and comfortable.

May the Lord welcome Yvonne and comfort her family, as we remember her in our prayers, and with a tear in our eyes and condolences,
    We raise a glass…
    In Memory of Yvonne Morningstar!
