David M. Shipley

David Martin Shipley "Dave", age 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Born on November 1, 1952, in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, Dave spent most of his life in Vermilion, Ohio. For the past five years, he made his home in North Royalton, Ohio with his wife, son, and daughter-in-law. Dave is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 54 years, Maxine Shipley; his son, David Ray Shipley and daughter-in-law, Julie Shipley (Cartmill); his granddaughters, Jaimee Kay (Perez) and Cailee Cartmill; his great-granddaughters, Abigail Pember and Olivia Kay; and his brother, Kenneth Ray Shipley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Evans Shipley and Martha Jean Zeller. Dave dedicated 30 years of his career to Ford Motor Company, where he worked on the assembly line and later as an inspector before retiring. He was a proud member of UAW Local 425. Earlier in life, he also volunteered as an advisor with the Vermilion Police Explorers, mentoring and encouraging young people in his community. A devoted husband and dedicated father, Dave had a gentle soul and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and anything with an engine. He had a lifelong passion for cars and motorcycles, especially Corvettes, Camaros, and Trans Ams. Whether talking about classic cars or admiring a well-built machine, he was always in his element. He loved sharing laughs with family, especially when good-natured teasing was involved. Anyone who rode with Dave knew they were never alone behind the wheel. He was the ultimate passenger-seat driver, always ready to let you know it was “clear this way.” His love of cars, quick wit, and playful sense of humor will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew him. Over the last decade, Dave courageously battled significant health challenges, facing each one with determination and quiet strength. More than anything, he will be remembered for the love he shared with his family and for always putting others before himself. His gentle heart, unwavering kindness, and willingness to help those around him leave behind a legacy that will be treasured by all who knew and loved him. In accordance with Dave’s wishes, his immediate family will gather privately to celebrate his life and the many memories they shared.
