Joan M. Fredericks

Joan Mary Fredericks, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother STRONGSVILLE – Joan Mary Fredericks, age 87, of Strongsville, formerly of Bedford, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 13, 2026, after a long battle with dementia at HMS Hospice of Medina County. Born March 16, 1939, in Friendship, New York, she was the daughter of Charles L. Shelley and Catherine Studley Shelley. On June 29, 1957, she married Bobby Lee Fredericks, who passed away on May 8, 2020. Mrs. Fredericks had lived in Bedford, Ohio, and most recently moved to Strongsville, Ohio, with her daughter Diane and son-in-law Thom. She worked for the City of Bedford as a crossing guard and later in the Bedford School District as a lunch aide and cook. She was a former member of Bible Baptist Church in Bedford, Ohio, (church organist for over 30 years) and later attended Calvary Independent Church in New Castle, Pennsylvania. She enjoyed crocheting blankets for her children, then for each of her 14 grandchildren, and later for her 18 great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed baking, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. Joan is survived by her children: Diane (Linus T. Grogan, Jr.), Bryan (Lynn), Marilyn (Michael Francu), Robert, and Paul (Kelly); her grandchildren: Thomas Grogan (Alyssa), Charles Grogan (Carrie), Pauline (née Grogan) (Cody Kirk), Brandon Fredericks (Sara), Nathan Fredericks (Jamie), Andrew Fredericks (Kaylee Rose), Veronica Rosario (née Francu) (Tony Rosario), Jessica Karim (née Francu) (Gino Karim), Karissa Fredericks, Rebekah (née Fredericks) (Brian Massie), Sarah Fredericks, Jonathan (Alyssa) Fredericks, David Fredericks (Gianna), and Hannah Loop (née Fredericks) (Jacob Loop); and her great-grandchildren: Robert Grogan; Carter and Olivia Kirk; Bo, Bryar, and Annabelle Fredericks; Bristol and Arlington Fredericks; Nello, Riley, and Avery Rosario; Alexandra and Nathaniel Pereza and Thomas Massie; Daniel Fredericks; and Josiah and Jeremiah Loop. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Maria Francu. She is also survived by two brothers, David J. Shelley of South Carolina and Lee A. (Donnette) Shelley of Texas, and one sister, C. Beverly Rogers of upstate New York. Funeral services and interment will be held privately.
