Edward F. Gedeon

Edward F. Gedeon

Edward F. Gedeon passed away suddenly Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Ed was born at home in Cleveland on June 2, 1935. He was the youngest in a family of five, having an older sister and foster brother.

Ed embraced responsibility very early, taking on a paper route with the Shopping News at the age of 7. He kept that paper route throughout high school, adding a job with two men’s clothing stores at different times, and peddling an ice cream bicycle wagon in his neighborhood during the summer months. He took great pride in the fact that his employers at the clothing stores asked his opinion when purchasing stock, and gave him a lot of responsibility at the store for someone his age. After graduating from St. Edward High School, he joined the family business, Gedeon Dairy, and married his high school sweetheart, Sara Pace, after she graduated from John Marshall High School in 1955. He supported his growing family by working in the dairy industry, becoming a valued employee of the company that eventually bought the family business. He retired from that company in 1993.

In retirement, Ed took great joy in maintaining the 11 acres of woods that he and his wife owned and lived on. It always made him smile when folks told him it looked like a park. He could putter with anything mechanical and get it working, and for anyone who had a problem that needed fixing, he was always ready with a solution. He made friends easily, and shopping trips in town were usually all day events, as he enjoyed conversing with anyone he ran into that was open to talking with him.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, four daughters, 2 sons-in law, 8 adult grandchildren, 5 adult grandchildren-in-law, 6 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his faithful Labrador, Remi.

They are his legacy.

In Heaven, Ed will be reunited with grandparents, his mother and father, foster brother, and several beloved dogs.

A memorial service for immediate family and close friends will be held sometime in July.
