On Mother’s Day, May 10, 2020, Kriste Mott joined the angels while in the arms of her Ricky, the love of her life, best friend and husband. Together with their children Brandon and Brooke, they faced and conquered the last eight years with hope and grace.

Born October 12, 1953, Kriste Michelle was the first of three daughters to Georgia Joan (nee Smith) and John Lyndon Butler. She married Richard “Rick” Vincent Mott on August 20, 1983, and they celebrated every day with laughter and love. Together they have three children: Brandon Richard, Brittney Michelle and Brooke Michelle. Kriste is reunited with Brittney who has awaited her since March 1988. Being a mother and a wife were the most important roles in Kriste’s life.

A woman who knew no strangers, Kriste was quick to love and quicker to forgive. She focused on the future and all life held. She delighted in her children’s successes, encouraged their friends, and relished in her extended families’ adventures.

With family foremost in her life, Kriste made their home the hub of holidays and parties where everyone was welcome. She and Rick created a haven at Marblehead, where they delighted in sharing their cottage and boats with visitors.

An avid seamstress, Kriste created her legacy of wedding dresses designed for countless family members and friends. During her 4-H years, she was honored with numerous State of Ohio awards including appointment to the coveted State Fashion Board. Kriste loved music and sang in Columbia United Methodist Church’s choir and holiday cantatas. She and Rick were active supporters of both Boy and Girl Scouts, and Youth Club.

A life long scholar, Kriste sought to expand her knowledge as a proud Bowling Green State University graduate (1975), where she skated on the Falconettes ice dance team. Her career included The Halle Bros. Company, NASA and Cocopa Elementary School. At Cocopa, families and children knew her as the fair and caring face of the school office.

Kriste and Rick loved to travel, especially camping in state and national parks. They spent a month last summer traveling cross-country to Glacier National Park. Together they built a gardening paradise at their home, sharing abundant produce with family and neighbors. For his Kriste, Rick designed a collection of bird feeders so she could catalogue wildlife from their patio.

In addition to Rick, her beloved husband of nearly 37 years, Kriste is survived by her son Brandon and his love Bryce Miller; daughter Brooke and son-in-law Jordan Bewley; sister Kelli and brother-in-law Scott Heldreth; sister Keri Butler; and niece Abigail Lyndon Butler and her partner Sebastian MacLeod. Additional surviving relatives are her aunt Lois Jean (nee Smith) Nichols; cousins Rhonda and Jim Nichols; Kathy and John Kinkema; Michelle and Michael Nichols; Joanna and Mike Shields; and Scott Nichols and Candace Winslow. Rick’s family members include Elaine (nee Mott) and Douglas Kaufman; and Barbara (nee Mott) and Scott Painting; and nieces and nephews Samantha (nee Kaufman) and Andy Lumpkin; Owen and Mason Lumpkin; Bethany Kaufman; Jaclyn and Ryan Painting; Addison, Nathan and Emerson Painting; Tiffany and Matthew Painting; Grace Painting; Andrew Prewitt; Kristy and Cody Prewitt; John Wayne Prewitt; Lizzy and Kenneth Mott; and Ignatius, Vivienne and Genevieve Mott.

Kriste now rests with other family including her beloved daughter Brittney; parents Joan and John Butler; uncle Mahlon Nichols; grandparents Margaret (Vandueser) and George Smith; Rick’s parents Eleanor M. and Bernard Vincent Mott; brother Paul Mott; sister Ginny (Virginia) Mott Prewitt; and nephew Anthony Prewitt.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to their church, Columbia United Methodist Church, 25453 Royalton Road, Columbia Station, Ohio 44028.

A celebration of Kriste’s life and legacy will be shared at a future time when the family may safely gather with friends.
