Robert J. Roebuck

Roebuck 5

Robert J. Roebuck, 71, passed away August 9th 2017 in his home located in Parma, Ohio due to natural causes.  Robert was born on April 25th 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio and married to Genevieve on 01.02.1967. Robert was known to most as “Captain Bob Smiley”.  He was a person who loved to chat and would talk to anyone about anything.  Robert gained his local “fame” or recognition as “Captain Bob Smiley” from his position as a bubbly door greeter at Walmart and followed by K-mart.  He created a fantasy and welcomed the customers “Aboard the USS Walmart”.  He had a way of painting the customers a picture of his fantasy using his words.  He always went out of his way to make the customers feel welcomed.  During the Christmas season, Captain Bob hung-up his captain hat and replaced it with a Santa hat.  He spent Christmas seasons filling children with joy as the store Santa Clause.  He took pleasure in knowing that he had helped to create a special holiday for the children.  In the Parma area, most would see him cruising Ridge Road in his blue 1992 Chrysler Lebaron convertible that he dubbed his “Land Yacht”.  Captain Bob would drive around for hours, listening to oldies songs and waving at people.  He was a lover of people and people loved him.  He will be missed.   If Robert were here, he would say “Have an amazing, creative, colorful, exquisite, phenomenal, luxurious and fantastic day, Mateys!

Robert’s survived by his wife (Genevieve) and two sons (Ray & Joe).

Robert will rest in peace at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
