Rodney Allen Lawler, age 87, of Strongsville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2020 at home under the care of his loving wife of 25 years and Hospice Care. Memorial Services are being planned for June 6, 2020 at Open Door Church in Elyria, Ohio with Jason Russ and Darryl Lawler officiating.

He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Cherilynn and his first wife Alfreda Mae (Mickey). Rod had four siblings: Mavis Jones, Ted Lawler, Donald Lawler who preceded him in death and one brother Harland Lawler that is still living.

Survivors include his children: Darryl (Marie) Lawler, Dan (Sheila) Lawler, Tim (Gris) Lawler, Wendy (Daniel) Williams, Shawn (Karen) Lawler, Kolin Lawler, and Joel (Karen) Lawler. Four step-children Jerry (Vickie) Hughes, John (Rafael) Hughes, Kim Basinski, and Jennifer Hebebrand. Rod was also “Grampie” to 20 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Rod grew up in Maine and loved to tell stories about his childhood there. He was a member of the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked several jobs over the years and retired as a welder from Ford in Brookpark. Rod was a faithful servant of God and served as an ordained deacon for several years in the church and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. After retirement Rod spent several years living in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he spent time working at Lakewood Campground. It was here that he designed and built a bridge that became a permanent fixture in the campground.

The family is asking that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions are made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Sorry so late, just found out. So very sorry for your loss. Was blessed to see you and him the previous year at Donna Schafer’s Wake, and do I have many fond memories of him when he would pick me up for church (when I was new in the faith) and help in Sunday School with my two older children at COD. Definitely missed.
